Location: Leipzig, Germany
Period: 01/09/2017 – 31/08/2018
Deadline: 9 April 2017
In this EVS the volunteer works mainly in a primary school: August Bebel Grundschule Leipzig. The social and culture centre the VILLA cooperates with the school.
The volunteer for social school work should be interested in working with kids and in a primary school.
The volunteers will work at the August Bebel School. At this school there are about 220 children aged between 6 and 10 from different nations in ten classes and two DaZ (German as a second language) classes.
The proportion of pupils with a migration background is 60%.
The school is located in a district in the east of Leipzig with a high proportion of migrants and high unemployment. A large number of social projects strive to provide the inhabitants of the district with as much opportunities as possible for a just and fulfilled cohabitation.
1) The volunteer accompanies 1-2 days / month project days with refugee / migrant classes in sociocultural centers. Doing so, the volunteer supports the full-time staff and can actively contribute his own ideas, prepare and shape the project days.
2) The volunteer is involved in the “social learning” of school social work. These include issues such as prevention of violence, sexual education, and the use of interactive methods in workshops and similar formats. This is where the volunteer participates and supports these offers with increasing self-employment. Here, he or she may also be able to carry out his own project.
3) Other tasks would be the support and participation of afternoon activities (eg sports & movement, healthy eating), the open house day of the school, the parents’ cafe.
On top of it, all volunteers have the opportunity to independently organize a project of their choice as part of their voluntary service.
In addition we will realize several project days towards topic of mobility in europe. The volunteer takes part in the workshop and is asked to present minimum one time the EVS and other mobility opportunities for young people in europe in a school class in Leipzig.
