  • The folk high school is placed in Brenderup – a small village with a couple of groceries, drug stores, schools and a library. Brenderup is close to both beach and forest. There is often arranged activities away from the high school. The type of activities depends on the season, but examples of activities are going to the beach for a swim or touring on the school bikes.Brenderup Folk High School is a contemporary Danish folk high school. The students are primarily between 17 and 25 years old. At Brenderup Folk High School we believe that a precondition for peaceful coexistence in the world is the unbiased interaction of people from different cultural backgrounds.
Brenderup Folk High School offers an exchange of life experience, ideas and viewpoints among people from different cultures, building on responsibility to the community and respect for the individual.
The volunteers will be lodged at the high school where they will live in a separate area with bedrooms, bathroom and kitchenette with a microwave etc. They will eat at the school together with the students and the staff.

Tasks

The volunteers will have the possibility to be a part of the special fellowship you find on a folk high school. The most important task for the volunteers will be to inspire us in our daily work. We expect them to help us look at the work we are doing in new ways, and to provide a different viewpoint in the themes we are discussing. There will be plenty of opportunity for the volunteers to make new initiatives and for creating their own activities. Examples of activities in which the volunteers could be involved: • construction of a nature playground for grown-ups • Office work (making brochures, updating facebook, eg.) • Other practical work in or around the high school • Assisting in the planning of leisure activities for the students on evenings and in weekends • Hosting in some evenings/weekends during the term • Participating/assisting in short term courses

Criteria

Volunteers who are open-minded, reflective, mature and full of initiative will be preferred. Volunteers with interest in folk music will be especially welcome to apply. The volunteers must be able to speak English at a conversational level. A volunteer with a non-Danish cultural background will hopefully give the folk high school some extra intercultural energy and inspiration to its work with the global dimension.

  • Snoghøj is situated in the heart of Denmark, on the outskirts of historic Fredericia, Denmarks largest seaport.
The school lies next to the sea in very beautiful natural surroundings. At Snoghøj you have spectacular views of the sea from almost everywhere. Its charming and spacious buildings house two complementary school forms, a traditional Danish Folk High School and a specialized preparatory school for international students.A stay at Højskolen Snoghøj can help you to develop your skills and abilities for your working life, and at the same time give you many enjoyable personal and social experiences.
The length of a course ranges from two to five months and starts in January and in August.
Everybody can come to Højskolen Snoghøj, although the students must be at least 17½ years old and have a reasonable level of English.

At present the school has the following primary subjects:
    1. Musical Base Camp
    2. Film Base Camp
    3. Theatre Base Camp
    4. Global Base Camp
    5. Youth Education Base Camp

Tasks

The volunteers will be a part of the special fellowship which you find on a folk high school. He/she will participate in our Danish courses, and through the entire stay the staff will help and support the volunteer whenever needed. As some of the students at the school combine their stay with a visit to another country, the most important task for the volunteer is to create an intercultural environment at the school. This could be done through informal cultural activities, dancing classes, language classes, etc. The volunteer will also work with our IT manager and the students in order to create a computer environment which meets the individual cultural requirements of the students. There will be plenty of opportunity for new initiatives and for the volunteers to create their own activities. If the volunteer has specific creative skills he/she will also be very welcome to create practical projects using those skills. As the program is quite intensive, there are often activities at the High School in the weekends. If the volunteer works during the weekend, he will have time off at another time during the week. The average working hours per day will be about 6 hours.

Criteria

The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative. We would prefer a person with a good command of spoken and written English language. Volunteers with a good knowledge of computer technology and communication will be preferred, but other cultural skills will be important assets. Volunteers with an interest in globalisation are also very welcome.
